A Letter From Our President
On behalf of my sisters, I am both humbled and honored to give you a glimpse into the fabulous life of an Alpha Phi here at George Mason University. My name is Hannah Young, the President of this amazing group of women.
Coming from a family of eight, I came to Mason looking for a home away from the home I’d always known. Going through recruitment I was introduced to many outstanding individuals and chapters. There was, however, something that stood out to me about the sisters of Alpha Phi. From the hipsters to the pageant queens this group of women encompasses each sister, beautiful and unique, put together to make our chapter so special.
On bid day, I gained much more than sorority letters. I gained a sisterhood that lasts a lifetime, character of our leaders, service opportunities, the common bond of scholarship, life-long loyalty, and boundless love for our community. Within Alpha Phi I have found a group of all empowering and inspirational women that lift me up beyond myself and give me the confidence that I can do whatever I set my heart to.
George Mason University is an amazing campus, constantly innovating and striving to offer its students the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. Joining Alpha Phi has been the perfect addition to my Mason experience. My sisters exemplify the diverse and innovative spirit of George Mason and inspire one another to take advantage of the opportunities this community has to offer.
Explore our website to learn more about our involvement in prestigious campus organizations, our philanthropic cause, and what it truly means to be an Alpha Phi.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my one in lifetime experience, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out!
With love and AOE,
Who We Are
ALPHA PHI IS A SISTERHOOD OF OUTSTANDING WOMEN SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER IN LIFELONG ACHIEVEMENT...
Since 1872, Alpha Phi has built our membership around the commitment to 6 values:
Alpha Phis cherish life-long friendships rooted in kindness, love and respect for one another. We believe in the concept of Watchcare - a tenet of our sisterhood which encourages support of one another through the good times and the bad, whether helping one another with academics or providing much needed support during a rough time.
Alpha Phi values each member's passion for education, knowledge, and achievement. Our founders were ten of the first twenty women admitted to Syracuse University in 1872 and they had the courage to persevere to earn a college education despite societal expectations at the time.
Alpha Phi supports those in need through service and philanthropy. We share a passion for helping one another and our surrounding communities. The Alpha Phi Foundation is one of the oldest Greek Foundations and works to raise awareness and funds in support of women's heart health.
Alpha Phis lead by example and strive for continuous, innovative improvement. Since her inception, Alpha Phi's founders encouraged one another to think, invent and improve. This pioneering spirit can be seen throughout Alpha Phi history and today - in our founding, our development of new chapters and our willingness to be an innovator as exemplified by our many "firsts".
Alpha Phis are members for a lifetime. We learn the value of loyalty and being true to each other and to our common ideals. Members continue to be devoted and connected sisters throughout college and beyond. They believe in stewardship and paying it forward such that those that come after them benefit from their legacy and the difference they made.
Alpha Phi fosters the qualities of strong character that distinguish our members and our sisterhood, including compassion, integrity and sincerity. In Alpha Phi, all members learn to lead by example through their actions and communication. They set expectations high for themselves and each other, and strive diligently to meet them.
