Why should I join a sorority?
Every woman has her own unique reasons for joining the Greek Community. We feel, joining a sorority is about finding a sisterhood and a home that suits you. Lasting friendships, leadership opportunities, philanthropic contributions, and not to mention an all around unforgettable college experience are some of the many benefits of joining a sorority. At a large university such as George Mason, a sorority can help create a sense of a smaller community that can be quite reassuring when stepping into a new environment. We like to think of it as ‘your home away from home’.
What kind of time commitment is joining a sorority?
All sororities have some aspects of their dynamics that are mandatory. Alpha Phi has chapter meetings and other important events such as fundraisers and philanthropy events. Our rule of thumb is ‘you get what you put into Alpha Phi’. So, we say the time commitment is as much time as you are willing and able to dedicate!
Is there any hazing in Alpha Phi?
None! Both Alpha Phi and George Mason have a strict no tolerance policy for hazing of any kind. Hazing is defined as any activities that cause humiliation, are seen as harassment or abuse, or any other activities that evoke fear or embarrassment.
Where and when was Alpha Phi founded?
Alpha Phi was founded by 10 brave women at Syracuse University in 1872. Today, Alpha Phi continues to provide a “tie which unites, a circle of friends” for women young and old all around the world. From hand to hand and heart to heart, we are all grateful and proud of the legacy left to us by our founders.
